SONY announces return of services. . .

Sony representative Kazuo Hirai apologizes.

May 14, 2011. Sony and SOE representative KAZUO HIRAI announced via video that the PLAYSTATION network services will resume starting today. A detailed "rollout" plan will be in effect and the service will be returned to SONY customers in phases as follows:

SIGN IN ABILITY ONTO THE PLAYSTATION ONLINE NETWORK

ONLINE GAMING ACROSS THE PLAYSTATION AND PSP BRANDS

QRIOCITY AND MUSIC UNLIMITED(if you have an established account already with these services)

NETFLIX, HULU, VUDU, and MLB TV

FRIENDS LIST, CHAT FUNCTIONALITY, TROPHY COMPARISON AND PLAYSTATION HOME

Upon login, all PS3 users must change their password. The password must be changed on the console that the account was created on or it will have to be done thru secure email. Also Hirai announced a few of the NEW security upgrades made to the network including:

ADVANCES SECURITY TECHNOLOGY

INCREASED LEVELS OF ENCRYPTION

ADDITIONAL FIREWALLS

EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS

Free identity theft programs are also being offered, plus free "welcome back packages" with details on the content of these packages to be revealed shortly.
