UNDERWORLD Awakes in Theaters Tomorrow!

The Return of a Death Dealer . . .

First there was “UNDERWORLD” where we were introduced to an age long battle between Vampires and Lycans, then there was “UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION” and it’s history revealing plot that showed how the two races(Vampires and Lycans) evolved.  The third film in this franchise, “UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS” where the basically focused on the Lycans and their part of the epic trilogy.

This time around, the war between the two species that has been private for so long has finally gone public.  Humans have discovered the existence of both Vampires and Lycans and have set out to eliminate them both.  There is also a hybrid young girl, a mixture of both clans that may hold secrets that seems to be a centerpiece in this outing.  The films have been centered around a Vampire Royal warrioress named Selene, one of the leaders in a special strike team of Vampires called “The Death Dealers.”  These are the protectors of the Vampire Royal Aristocracy.  Selene is played by the sultry Kate Beckinsale, a tough, loyal, and capable warrior who is devoted to seeing her species persevere.

Obviously by going public with the fight between the two races, and bringing in a third party in the humans, means new cast members.  This time around, Beckinsale is joined by Stephen Rea who plays Dr. Jacob Lane, and Micheal Ealy who is cast as Detective Sebastion.  Also joining the cast are Theo James, India Isley, Charles Dance and Sandrine Holt.  So come out to theaters Friday, January 20th and return to the “Underworld” and watch the next installment of this series.  Big budget special effects, Vampires, Lycans, Humans, guns and explosions . . . . . . directed by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein and written by Len Wiseman, “UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING” in theaters TOMORROW!!!!

Return To The Arena!

SPARTACUS Returns for VENGEANCE . . .

Histories most famous Gladiator . . .SPARTACUS, returns to torment his Roman adversaries on Friday January 27th for the premiere of the new season "SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE!"  It's been a long off season for the hit STARZ Cable Network show.  With the passing of Andy Whitfield who tragically lost his battle with Lymphoma, the show was at a crossroads.

Whitfield was beloved in the lead role and played it with passion and vigor.  The network in a bold move decided to continue on with the show and re-cast the lead of SPARTACUS with a new comer named Liam McIntyre.  At first glance, McIntyre bears an uncanny resemblance to Whitfield and was exited to take on the role.

There have been two seasons of the show so far, one a full season called "SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND" and a mini- series that was a prequel named "SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA."  This season picks up where the last full season left off,  with the Gladiators living in the Lourdes of the House Of Batiatus leading a revolt against their Roman captors.  Spartacus and his main rival turned ally, Crixus(who was champion before Spartacus took the title from him) have teamed up to lead the slaves/gladiators on a campaign to freedom that will no doubt be as bloody as any gladitorial contest thus far.  One thing stands in their way of freedom, the empire of Rome and it's soldiers led by Cladius Glaber, a ruthless Captain who's wife also barters a fierce hatred for Spartacus.

Joining Spartacus in his return will be a host of familiar characters from the previous seasons that you've come to either love or despise.  The aforementioned Crixus, the trainer of the Lourdes Anumeaus also known as Doctore, the conniving Ashur, and the sultry but evil Llithyia.

These are but a few of the well known faces you'll see making a return in this next installment of the show.  There are bound to be surprises and curves thrown at you along the way.  There is also room for characters thought to be dead from seasons past to make re-occuring appearances in the form of flashback scenes or dream sequences.  There is even a hint of certain individuals making a "return from the dead" in a way.  All in all, this season should be as exiting as the previous two and should not disappoint.  Catch the return of Spartacus in "SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE" nest Friday Jan. 27th on the STARZ cable network.  Here is a sneak preview of the new season followed by a brief cast listing.  Stay tuned to Guerillatron.com as we follow up this AMAZING show!  TO THE GLORY OF THE ARENA!

SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE

EDITORIAL: What happened to the MUSIC?

Lying awake last night suffering through another bout of my all too reoccurring insomnia, I found myself channel surfing in hopes of finding something that could help me get to sleep.  I landed on the cable television network VH1.  They have a show I used to watch religiously called "Behind The Music."  It's a docu-drama style show where they tell the story of a chosen artist from their beginnings to whatever they may have become or what they are doing today.  This episode was about the Pop duo Hall & Oates, the most successful in music history.  At one point they held the recording record for scoring the most consecutive top ten hits in a row with 10 in 5 years time.  From 1980 to 1985, Hall & Oates ruled the airwaves.  Watching this I asked myself a question. . ."What happened to the music?"

Where are all of today's iconic musicians?  Throughout music's long existence, there were always musical acts that were groundbreaking, chart topping, innovative, talented, and sometimes controversial.  Most of all though, they had long impressive record breaking careers.  There seems to be a lack of that today.  These kind of artists seem to be missing from today's music scene.  Who are the musical icons today?  The drought stretches across all genres of music.

Define the term ICON and just what does it take to be considered one. Does doing one's job well qualify you for the title of an ICON or does it take more than that?  Is it how many hits an artist has?  Could it be the length of ones career?  Maybe it's an artist's versatility, how many styles and genres they can fit in.  Truth be told, we don't know what the measuring statistics are that can be used to judge if someone has the mettle to be a musical legend, an ICON,  Dictionary.com defines the word as i-con[ahy-kon] noun- a sign or representation that stands for it's object by virtue of a resemblance or analogy to it.  In other words, meaning something so strong that it practically defines itself by being or doing that very thing that well.  Throughout history, music has had artists that define the genres they were in, the very music itself synonymous with the word hit.

Artists like Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or The Temptations.  You had artists who became ICONS through tragedy for one reason or another, accidental deaths, drug overdoses or suicide.  Performers like Jimi Hendrix who died by asphyxiation from combining sleeping pills and wine, Janis Joplin from a heroin overdose, Jim Morrison of heart failure or Marvin Gaye who was shot to death by his own father.

The 70's and 80's were filled with people who became musical ICONS.  With the help of shows like American Bandstand and Soul Train where artists could perform, be interviewed, and interact with the fans.  You also had the introduction of music television with channels like MTV and VH1,  you also had weekly countdown shows that were televised like America's Top 10 with Casey Kasem.  All of this exposure gave people an insight on their favorite artists that we don't get today.

These decades produced such heavy hitters as Micheal Jackson, the biggest "Pop" act of all time, Madonna, Prince, Billy Joel, Elton John, Aerosmith, Kiss, RUN DMC, and Led Zeppelin to name a few.  Moving on into the 90''s, you have even more artists who threaten to become ICONS in time.  Acts like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey who had an incredible run and holds the record for number 1 singles with 15, topping this next act who held the record at 13 in Boys II Men, and there's others.  But in the late 90's to early 2000, music changed.  The industry has changed too, the way you market artists, the coming of digital quality copying where you could essentially make a copy of someone's music at industry quality helped kill sales.  Then your pirate sharing sites like Napster came on the scene and made it possible to just download your favorite artist instead of buying their work.  With legitimate sites like iTunes and Zune you could even make your own mix of songs by just downloading the ones you liked and you didn't even have to purchase the whole CD.

Today's artist face an uphill battle with the proverbial deck stacked against them.  Fans are more fickle today and with so many options in front of them to avoid buying music, with the ability to make CD's at home using only the songs you like making your own "greatest hits" compilations, artists have a long hard road towards longevity and making it to the "ICON" status.  There are a few contenders in the arena though, acts like Lady Ga Ga, Beyonce, and Kings of Leon are doing well.  In the Country and Rap worlds, artists like Lady Antelbum, Carrie Underwood, Kanye West, and Lil' Wayne are perineal fan favorites.  Can these acts stand the test of time, have longevity, and string together enough hits to do what the acts of old have done, that's a question that is yet to be answered.  Maybe one day years from now laying in bed late at night and trying to find something to watch waiting to fall asleep some of today's artist will be featured on a show discussing their greatness, only time will tell.

Breaking up the ENTOURAGE!

Entourage starts it's FINAL SEASON with the last 8 episodes. . .

It's a bittersweet occasion as this season of HBO's Original Series "Entourage" returns because when the last show airs, they won't be coming back.  Over the years we've grown a fond appreciation for the show, it's characters, the celebrity cameos, and all the hi-jinks that the boys from Queens, New York get involved in.  The show revolves around a group of 5 friends and their capers in Hollywood.  Vincent "Vinnie" Chase, a movie star and Hollywood "it" guy, his older brother Johnny Drama who's also an actor, Eric Murphy who goes by "E" is Vinnie's manager, Turtle, a close buddy from home who is the "gopher" for the boys, and Ari Gold, the Super celebrity agent to Vinnie Chase.

The shows catch phrase "life changes. . . .friends don't!" is the perfect motto for the show as the show is all about friendship and comradery.  This season Vince is coming off his most trying time as he was sent to rehab at the end of the least season.  Johnny Drama finally has a hit show, Eric and Sloane are moving along with planning the wedding, while Turtle tries to get his Tequila partnership off the ground.  And finally Ari deals with the separation from his wife.  Over the years, Entourage has been a celebrity mecca with so many stars making guest appearances and playing small roles making the authenticity of the show that much more credible as it depicts the lifestyle of Hollywood movers and shakers.

Entourage was created by Doug Ellin and stars Adrian Grenier as Vincent Chase, Kevin Dillon as Johnny Drama, Kevin Connolly as Eric Murphy, Jerry Ferrara as Turtle, and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Piven as Ari Gold.  The show also has a plethora of celebrity co-stars and guests, too many to name.  Entourage is another in a line of critically acclaimed HBO shows that have reached it's end.  With classic episodes like "Vegas Baby, Vegas" and "Fore" this show will truly be missed. If you're lucky you can catch the show now in syndication or you can opt to buy it on DVD or Blu-ray.  Either way, Entourage is a must see.

Raise the glass of Ciroq or Moet and toast to a great show's last Hurrah! Cheers and Salute'!

The Amazing Spider-Man

Spotlight: The Amazing Spiderman

Spiderman…Spiderman, does whatever a spider can….

If you're a Spiderman fan, that song rings familiar in your head.  It's from the old 70's Spiderman cartoon.  That was a long time ago, but we've had many versions of everyone's favorite Web Slinger since then.  Most recently, the Sam Raimi trilogy.  We first saw the Wall Crawler on the movie screen in 2002 with the release of Spiderman which was a major hit.  Soon followed by the sequels Spiderman 2 & 3 in 2004 and 2007.  All three films had the core returning cast of Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco while directed by Sam Raimi.  That was then….following the new trend in Hollywood of remakes and reboots(like the super successful Batman franchise as an ex.) Spiderman gets his turn in the form of "The Amazing Spiderman" set for release next year.

"The Amazing Spiderman" tells the story of nerdy but brilliant Peter Parker who at an early age was sent to live with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben.  In a freak accident, Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and developed spider-like powers turning him into a life sized human spider.  Having the opportunity to stop a robber who minutes later ended up shooting his beloved Uncle, remembers a phrase his Uncle once told him. . . ."With great power comes great responsibility."  Using the tragedy as motivation Parker designs a costume and becomes the Amazing Spiderman.

This new Spiderman film stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spiderman, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Dennis Leary to name a few.  It is directed by Marc Webb and set to be released July 3, 2012.  Here is a first look at the new trailer for the movie. . .

As always, stay tuned to Guerillatron.com for all the spectacular news on ol' Web Head and what comes next leading up to and on release of "The Amazing Spiderman" which is sure to me another blockbuster from Marvel Comics.

A Real American Hero. . .

Freedom, truth, and the AMERICAN WAY hit theaters this Friday. . .

Coming this Friday, a true American Hero hits the big screen in an explosion of patriotism, covered in old glory, and carrying his trademark bicentennial themed shield into action against the forces of evil in the form of the Nazi themed organization with aspirations on world domination known as HYDRA!  Led by the notorious Red Skull, Hydra is a force to be reckoned with.  Can Captain America, the last hope for World Peace put an end to the Red Skulls plans and save the day,  you'll have to be in theaters Friday to find out. . .

We here at Guerillatron.com are exited about the release of Captain America: the First Avenger and thought it was a good idea to give you a little insight on this iconic character, his background, and why he's relevant today.  A little information to tease and get you ready for this EPIC release!!!

The story of Steve Rogers. . .

As a young man, the boy who would become the legend was born sickly, son of an alcoholic father who died when he was a child, and a mother who died of pneumonia after he graduated.  Deciding to join the Army to serve his country, Steve Rogers couldn't pass the physical and was turned down. Thinking there had to be something for him to do to serve his country, he signed up for a special military program called Operation: Rebirth. The program was designed to make America's first "Super Soldier," undergoing the process his body was changed giving him peak human abilities and reflexes.  Before any more soldiers were made, the scientist who came up with the program was murdered leaving Steve Rogers as the first and last one to undergo the process, the one and only Captain America!

A long time coming. . .

Captain America was said to be an impossible movie to make because of the nature of the story and character, and the times we live in today.  With the war on terror a frightfully real thing, with anti-American sentiment in parts of the world, and the nature of the story seen as "Propaganda,"  a soldier carrying a red, white, and blue shield, and draped in colors that mirrored the American flag didn't seem feasible.  There are some places where the film will debut with a "shortened" title as some countries have opted to drop "Captain America" from the title and just going with "The First Avenger" as a title.  But the ideals in this movie can translate to any nation, regardless if you sympathize with American values or not…the notion that one person can make a change, that you don't have to be the "best" in order to make a difference, or that being a volunteer is important are universal examples of good character.  Actually Captain America is just what we need today, someone who embodies these qualities and has the bravery and initiative to put them to use.

Full Circle. . .

Captain America: The First Avenger will be in theaters Friday July 22, 2011 and has a star studded cast which includes Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, and Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/The Red Skull.  The film also stars Haley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, and Derek Luke.  It's directed by Joe Johnston and has a runtime of 125 minutes and a PG-13 rating.  This film will undoubtedly be the next in a long line of MARVEL blockbuster's and will tie-in to the previous The Mighty Thor and Iron Man movies and lead into next years "The Avengers" movie currently being filmed and starring the whole Avengers team, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and more.  Stay tuned to Guerillatron.com as we will be all over this release with news, highlights, and the revue after its release.

ISP’s Plan On “SINKING” Internet Pirates!

Internet Service Providers have a plan to stop Internet Pirating called "Six Strikes.  .  ."

The Internet Service Providers(ISP's) and the entertainment industry have banded together to come up with a plan to stop people from illegally downloading copywritten material through such services like Pirate Bay, Limewire, or Frostwire.  These sites are called "Torrent" sites where individuals can download material from one another without the purchase or consent of the owners/artists of the material.  These are the next step in the evolution of the old content sharing sites that were all but shut down in the past like Napster for example.

Napster for example was forced to change it's format from a free service to an "itunes" like pay service where you pay for your songs that you download individually as an alternative to purchasing the whole CD.  So in a move to complicate and deter pirating, a new program is in the works called "Six Strikes" where what they potentially have set up is to downgrade your internet speed and set you back to dial-up bandwith, or to suspend your internet service entirely for a period of time.

The program is set to go into effect when the finishing touches are finally put into place and will be rolled out over the next 6 to 9 months.  There are potential problems that need to be worked out though that could really cause a hangup because of the "grey area" they fall in.  G4tv did a piece on their segment called "The Loop" where they discussed some of these potential problems in this plan.  For instance, if I don't have a "firewall" or if my wireless router happens to be unlocked and someone uses my service to download pirated material, how can I prove i had nothing to do with it.  What are the channels I go through to clear or prove my innocence.  Will it be at a cost, and if so, will I be reimbursed for my financial troubles.

Also, will my ISP prorate my bill for the suspended service in the meantime.  The issue of what is constituted as "Pirated" is still a very broad category.  What about your Internet Service Provider altering a service you pay for, will your money for the service be returned to you?  If I'm paying for high speed and I'm slowed to dial-up, is that money lost?  When can I apply for my service to be returned to normal.  What's to stop me from hopping to another ISP provider once I'm banned.  Will another service provider accept my business?

"Six Strikes" is coming in the months ahead and it's up to you to decide is it worth it to you to have your internet speed slowed or worse, to lose your service altogether.  And that's not to forget you are still subject on top of this program to the legal ramifications of Pirating copywritten material.  The choice is yours, but be prepared to deal an be accountable for whatever happens in the aftermath.

Here's the link to the segment from G4tv
