PSN Cracked

PSN Blues

Most would assume that all is well in the digital playground that is PSN.  Most would be wrong.  Actually I'm surprised this hasn't been covered by any other VG media outlets.  Oh well, just lets the GT crew break another story.  You may be asking WTF am I talking about. Read on and all will be clear.

So my son wanted to play the UC3 Beta with me via split screen.  I went to log in his PSN account and received an error msg.  Ok standard fare.  All I needed to do was follow a link sent to the the e-mail address associated with my sons account.  You know reset the password because I had neglected to do so initially. I had the same problem with my wife's account previously.  Apparently if you waited too long the password reset via PS3 Is no longer an option.  The problem starts with the lack of an e-mail from Sony to my sons account.  No problem, I just need to reset the password via the PlayStation website.  Or so you would think.  Once again the password reset server is down.  Don't believe me?  Here's a screenshot of what's displayed when you attempt to reset a password. It's been like that since Monday…As previously mentioned I had used the site to reset my wife's account AFTER the exploit was exposed and the site pulled to fix it.  Now it's down again and this time there's no official word from Sony.  Now I'd be a little less ranty if news hadn't leaked of Sony pulling the old contradictory backpedal.  Oh yes.  To further add to my aggravation Sony has a new PSN Pass program in the works.  Leaked box art for Resistance 3 shows the PSN Pass logo.  Any gamer worth their salt should recall the recent criticism EA suffered for implementing the EA Online Pass.
Now what these "online passes" essentially equate to is paying to play online if you buy used games, or have multiple PSN and/or XBL accounts.  The industry has moved in this direction to attempt to dissuade gamers from buying used titles.  I can understand their motives but don't agree with the approach.  Personally I don't trade in games I'm a collector.  Additionally I don't buy used.  I want my money to go to the people that actually worked their butts off and made sacrifices to bring the quality titles we love to the market.  I understand some folks financial situation may force them to buy all used games.  No ill will, I feel ya.  I once was there and don't look down on others that do purchase used.

However it's annoying that I have to spend an extra $10 if I want any other members of my family to be able to play "online Pass" games.  As someone that intentionally buys new, I feel I shouldn't be punished for other folks buying habits.  Sony choosing to go this route is bull shhh.  For a company that has repeatedly touted their free online services it's ridiculous that they pull an about face.  No longer is it free to play online on PSN.  Sony can't control 3rd parties, but to follow suit just spits in the face of PSN supporters and user's.  Looks like I'm going to have to purchase a "pass" if I want my son to be able to play Resistance 3 online.  That's assuming we will one day be able reset his password.  I'm highly disappointed in Sony and their decision to pursue the "Online Pass" model.  Keep checking GT for future updates as they develop.  Sound off on your favorite social media outlets.  Let Sony know PSN user's won't stand for this malarkey!

L.A. Noire and what can you do to get excited about it.

L.A. NOIRE is almost here….

With L.A. NOIRE almost here we here at Guerillatron wanted to give you some detective stories to check out before you jump into the world of L.A. NOIRE.

First up would be DICK TRACY-

A real treat for comic book books fans from the 20's – 40's style.  DICK TRACY is a comic book detective that batman learned from.  you take some great villains to make your hero that more important.  we highly recommend this film to get you as comic book and detective fans.

2. We have L.A. Confidential-

Simply an amazing movie.  this trailer does not do the movie justice, the movie was just one of those movies that others must try to top.  we highly recommend this one also.

3. And the movie that L.A. NOIRE's story is played off of is the Black Dahlia-

This was inspired by the real events that happened in the 1940's L.A.

So there we have it, 3 films that will get you ready for tuesday's release of L.A. NOIRE.  L.A. NOIRE's review will be coming soon from myself as soon as i am able to finish the game and get my full fill of the story and gameplay.  and one thing is for sure, ROCKSTAR has never let us down and we hope they don't this time either!

PSN-Hack

PSN… how they hacked it.

In this over simplified representation of how the hackers gained access to PSN it's comforting to know that all of this trouble could be summed up in one slide.

The only comfort in all of this is Sony has stated how it will "make it up" to it's users:

  • All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service.
  • Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
  • Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

So there you have it. A month free. Don't you feel better?

Sony Announces Next Generation Portable (PSP NGP)

Shawn’s Comment: Sony Computer Entertainment announced their follow up to the Playstation Portable and the failed update PSP Go. This next device is suppose to be a complete revamp of the portable gaming system. They have put everything into this thing, dual analog sticks (a must for first person shooters), touch screen and a first for portable games a back side touch pad so you don’t have to obstruct your view then playing a “touch” game. Coupled with a ton of other promised features this looks to be a huge edition to the mobile market. Now we just need to find out how much it is going to cost.

Below is the official press release from SCE. See the original post here.

January 27 2011
SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES ITS NEXT GENERATION PORTABLE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

Ultimate Portable Entertainment System Makes Its Debut This Year, Further Expanding the PlayStation® Business in the Portable Gaming Market

Tokyo, January 27, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced its next generation portable entertainment system (codename: NGP), which delivers the ultimate portable entertainment experience. NGP will make its debut at the end of the year 2011.

NGP is designed to offer unparalleled interactive entertainment that is only possible on PlayStation®. This new system offers a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context, made possible by leveraging SCE’s experience from both PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and PlayStation®3 (PS3®) entertainment systems.

Deep and immersive gaming is at the core of PlayStation’s DNA, and NGP is the latest embodiment of this vision. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity, together with various applications, NGP will enable infinite possibilities for users to “encounter,” “connect,” “discover,” “share” and “play” with friends wherever they are. Within the device are a range of features that provide a genuinely cutting-edge, next generation ultimate portable entertainment experience.

  • Stunning OLED and Revolutionary User Interface
NGP incorporates a beautiful multi-touch 5-inch organic light emitting display (OLED) as the front display. A high-performance CPU / GPU combined with OLED enables rich, visually striking graphics never seen before on a portable entertainment system, for both games and other digital entertainment content. The new system also incorporates a unique multi-touch pad on the rear, and together with the front touch display, NGP offers new game play allowing users to interact directly with games in three dimension-like motion, through “touch, grab, trace, push and pull” moves of the fingers.
  • Super Oval Design and Dual Analog Sticks
While succeeding the basic design philosophy of PSP, NGP adopts the Super Oval Design form factor, created to fit comfortably in users’ hands. For the first time, a portable entertainment system will feature two analog sticks, which enable a wider range of game genres to be brought into the portable experience.
  • LiveArea™
Every game title for NGP will be provided with a space called “LiveArea™” where users can share the fun and excitement with other players. Users will have access to the latest information of games provided from SCE and 3rd party developers and publishers through PlayStation®Network. Additionally, NGP users will be able to view an “Activity” log that is constantly updated with accomplishments from users who are playing the same game, which in turn can trigger active real-time communication among users.
  • Near
SCE will also provide location-based services on NGP as part of the basic features utilizing PlayStation Network. The new application called “Near,” developed specifically for this service and the network, will be pre-installed in the system to let users find out what their friends in the vicinity are playing now or what they were playing recently. Users can meet their friends and new players virtually, regardless of what games they are playing, simply by sharing their game information across different dimensions of time and distance.
  • New Game Medium
NGP adopts a new game medium, a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store the full software titles plus add-on game content or the game save data directly on to the card. By adopting flash memory based card, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games.

NGP will also come equipped with two cameras on its front and rear, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass, all of which are designed to enable users to enjoy the world of entertainment that is linked with real life experiences.

PlayStation®Suite (PS Suite), announced today, will also closely coordinate with NGP. The newly developed and released game content for Android™ based portable devices can also be enjoyed on NGP. As a result, users will have access to not only the most leading-edge content, but also some of the more casual experiences that typify the mobile market place.

SCE will vigorously promote NGP towards the launch as the next generation portable entertainment platform and deploy various measures to further expand the portable gaming market.
